Problems with sleep are very common, over 60 million sleeping pills are taken each night in America alone. A recent study has found that a third of the adult population in Britain is affected by sleeping problems, or more correctly, insomnia.
Lack of a good night's sleep can be very distressing and if the situation carries on for a long enough time, the worry and frustration of anticipated poor sleep causes even greater hardship.
The amount of sleep we need varies from person to person. It has been said that Winston Churchill, during WWII, got by on as little as 2 – 4 hours per night.
Age is a factor. An infant usually needs far more sleep than someone in their seventies. The level of activity during the day will normally be a determining factor in the amount of sleep we need.
An elderly person will generally be less active during the day than say, a mother with three young children and will therefore need far less sleep to recharge.
There are a number of reasons why problems occur, also, sleep problems themselves tend to differ.
Normal effects of aging
Medical reasons: Pain, pregnancy, the need to visit the lavatory, prescribed medicines can also cause insomnia
Stress, anxiety
Depression
Shift work
For most the problem is actually getting to sleep; it can take several hours to finally drop off
Disturbed sleeping pattern; frequently waking with difficulty getting back to sleep
General poor quality, light, restless, irregular sleep
There could be many other reasons why you may have a hard time getting enough sleep but be assured, hypnotherapy can and does help in many cases.
Don't wait any longer, pick up the phone and give me a call.
